During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many nearby drugstores temporarily closed, this Walgreens on Columbus became our go-to simply because of its location and convenience. Even now, I don’t visit very often, but when I do, the pharmacy team has generally been helpful and professional. They’ve answered questions, handled prescriptions efficiently, and made the experience smoother during busy periods. That said, the overall experience can be a bit mixed. The store is usually stocked with the basics—over-the-counter medications, personal care items, and a small selection of household essentials, but the floor staff can be hit-or-miss when it comes to availability and assistance. One recurring frustration has been the automated text notifications for prescriptions. I’ve had multiple instances where I received a “ready for pickup” message, only to arrive and find out the prescription wasn’t actually ready, which led to additional waiting time. It’s still a convenient neighborhood option, especially if you live nearby in North Beach or along Columbus Avenue, but it helps to double-check with the pharmacy before heading over if you’re relying on those text alerts.

April 22, 2026- Wednesday. I had a concerning experience at the Walgreens located at 1175 Columbus Ave, San Francisco, on April 22 at approximately 4:03 PM. I attempted to redeem a gift card with a remaining balance under $15. Under California Civil Code § 1749.5, retailers are required to cash out gift cards when the remaining balance is below the statutory threshold. I expected this to be handled without issue. The shift lead on duty, Wenai, refused to process the cash redemption. When I asked for clarification, no policy or legal explanation was provided. I calmly referenced the applicable California law, but the request was still denied. During the interaction, Wenai appeared dismissive and unprofessional, including rolling his eyes while I was trying to understand the refusal. Beyond the poor customer service, the refusal raises concerns about whether staff at this location are properly trained on California’s gift card redemption requirements and consumer protection laws. Businesses operating in California are expected to follow state law and ensure employees understand basic compliance obligations. I am leaving this review to document the experience and to encourage management to address both training and customer service standards at this location.

I had to pick up my dad's perscriptions from the pharmacy. While I was there I also had other things rung up that I needed for the house. When the lady at the pharamacy checked me out she stapled the handles on the paper bag so the bag wouldn't break on my way home. That's the first time anyone has ever done that. It was very thoughtful and considerate. I didn't catch he name but she had a dark complexion and she wore glasses. If only more people in the world were like her.

Stopped in looking for some grab and go food. Salads and sandwiches looked soggy. They also had a pan handler sitting at the bottom of the ramp that led to the entrance. Place seemed run down tbh.

Unsafe. Do not pick up calls from doctors. Unsafe prescribing of discontinued controlled substances. Avoid using them.
